The Canton of Zug 30 Years Ago

As a freelance press photographer, I worked in the 80s and 90s for many magazines and journals such as "Schweizer Familie", "Brückenbauer", for the "Tages-Anzeiger", "Die Weltwoche" or the "Beobachter". I started in 1975 at the "Luzerner Tagblatt", which in 1991, first with the "Vaterland" and later also with the "Luzerner Neusten Nachrichten", became today's "Luzerner Zeitung". Three newspapers became one. I am working on a book on the subject, which will be published at the end of 2021. The Zuger Tagblatt and the Luzerner Tagblatt worked together in the 1980s. Details can be found at www.luzerner-tagblatt-buch. I was also sent to Zug again and again to do photo seriess and portraits of various personalities of that time. A big series about the Zug youth was made in 1984 for "Schweizer Familie". In Rotkreuz I photographed the market research institute GfK. In 1980 I was in Menzingen for a series about the Migros sales van in Zugerland. I portrayed library director Heinz Morf in 1984 and Alphons Spirig of Radio Sunshine in 1987. I was also on site for many hours with my camera during the nighttime assembly of the iron construction above the Neustadt Passage. In 1990 I met Daniel Brunner in his old town apartment and in 1992 government councillor Hanspeter Uster in the office next to the Metalli. I photographed Willy Kissling, director of Landis & Gyr, in 1994. I chose these pictures because documenting contemporary history has become important to me as a photographer and publisher. As a member of the board of trustees of Fotodok.swiss, I am committed to preserving historical image collections. The canton of Zug also has a portal on its website.
